Walk into Bouzy Rouge and you’ll definitely be amazed by the wacky and quirky decorations inside, reminiscence of something out of Cirque De Soleil. This provides a good indication of the service that you will be receiving here – fun, flamboyant and whimsical.
Starting off with tapas, we were very impressed with the tinned Spanish anchovies, the pan-fried Saganaki and also the Jamon croquettes. Being one who adores bold and intense flavours, these three dishes hit the spot. The suckling pig must also be commended for its texture – the perfect combination of crispy crackling and tender meat.
When the lamb shoulder arrived on our table with only a spoon, we knew we were in for a treat. True enough, it was so tender and soft, that we only require a spoon to cut through it. Meaty and flavourful, it was skilfully cooked. The Paella Negra somewhat paled in comparison to the lamb, but it was a tasty dish nonetheless.
Amazing cocktails rounded up our meal, and the amount of food we ordered had us rolling out the door.
An eclectic layout leading to a quiet outdoor terrace at the rear. An oasis on a very warm Melbourne lunch. Is Spanish oriented so a large selection of Tapas and some substantial larger dishes reigned for sharing. The usual Tapas suspects of Bravas, Jamon croquettas, Tinned anchovies etc. we close the specials of codfish croquettas and Padrone peppers. The latter were excellent and a hat tip to a dish that is rare outside of Spain. Main dish of slow cooked lamb shoulder was superb. Pork tender, but still with some structure and a delightful caramelised surface, served with excellent roast potatoes. Service was friendly and efficient. I’d return in a heart beat.
With so many restos offering much the same fare, Bouzy Rouge is refreshingly different. Food quality excellent and staff super efficient
